The most powerful storm to hit Santa Cruz (in October) since 1962 was a true gutter flusher. Over 10" of rain fell in Ben Lomond in less than 24 hours. Winds of 50 and 60 mph buffered the coast all day long. All the street and gutter debris for the past 6 months was flushed straight out into the ocean. How many pounds of cigarrette butts do think washed out? Gasoline, oil and solvents all made their way into the ocean on this one. Probably a good thing it happened all at once. It will take several days for the ocean to distribute all this debris back to our shores. Remember, it all drains to The Bay.
